Alaska Federal Cuts

federal budget cut

According to the 2021 $4.8 trillion budget from the Trump administration there will be numerous cuts to Alaska programs. One significant cut is the Denali Commission. Funding to build rural Alaska infrastructure and improve farms and docks would be cut by almost 60%.

The Denali Commission is an independent federal agency that works with Alaskan communities and federal state to better rural infrastructure and economic development. The commission’s federal co-chair Jason Hoke expressed the importance of the agency saying, “l hope it does (survive) so l can prove to the president how valuable an asset he has”. The president’s budget is just a proposal as Congress ultimately decides and in recent years proposals by Trump to cut funding to the Denali Commission have been blocked by Congress.
