A new recycling center will open in Juneau on January 14. The center will be open five days a week offering more convenience to residents. The site is located at 5600 Tonsgard Court and will be open for both commercial and residential use.
The City and Borough of Juneau will be removing the recycling drop boxes on January 14 because of the dumping and the misuse of the containers, as well as the high cost of maintaining them in the winter. Also the drop box pilot program which was started in 2016 by the CBJ will be assessed on its success and future.
CBJ has contracted Waster Management to run the new recycling center. The center will accept sorted plastics #1 and #2, glass bottles, glass jars, aluminum cans, tins, mixed paper and corrugated cardboard according to CBJ.
